Samsung Patent Showcases Hybrid Smartphone Running Android And Windows Phone Simultaneously

There's probably isn't a huge crowd of smartphone shoppers fretting over the decision to go with Android or Windows Phone, but for those pondering the two platforms, Samsung may one day make the choice easy—go with both! That's the idea behind a patent application Samsung filed in South Korea, one that describes a phone running both OSes at the same time.
Samsung's approach is different than that of a dual-booting solution. What Samsung conceived is a much slicker solution in which switching between Windows Phone and Android would be similar to bouncing around different open apps like you can already do in Samsung's Multi Window feature for its Galaxy handsets.

According to the patent filing, Android and Windows Phone would occupy two separate windows. Users would be able to drag and drop files between the two OSes, and when needed, they could minimize one of the OSes similar to how apps minimize in TouchWiz.

Operating systems like Android and Windows Phone aren't dinky little programs, they're major platforms. To ensure they each run as expected, or needed, Samsung's patent calls for the ability to let users manage hardware resources such as CPU cores and RAM. For example, a user could toss more cores at Windows Phone and limit how much memory Android consumers, or vice versa.

It's a nifty concept, though one with perhaps a limited audience. One top of that, Samsung would have to execute the idea near flawlessly—assuming there's a limited market for a smartphone that can run Android and Windows Phone at the same time, it shrinks even further if one or both platforms is buggy on a hybrid device.

Nokia P1 concept showcases premium design with minimal bezels

"The Nokia P1 will allegedly feature a 23.3MP rear camera, 6GB RAM and 256GB storage"

HMD Global is expected to launch a new Nokia Android flagship smartphone at MWC in February alongside a couple of mid-rangers. The flagship phone will reportedly be called the Nokia P1. The alleged phone was spotted at CES in January at Qualcomm's booth. However, the chipset maker said that it was only a reference unit.

The Nokia P1 concept suggests that the phone will feature minimal bezels on the sides.

It will get a hybrid SIM slot at the bottom part of the left side of the handset. The primary snapper of the device is coupled with a triple-LED flash, while the Nokia logo is located at the centre. On the right side, the phone will get power button and volume rocker. At the bottom, it will get a USB Type-C port, a speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The teaser shows a phone with a physical home button, which is expected to hide a fingerprint sensor beneath. The device sports a premium metallic frame and a glass back panel. Lastly, the concept suggests that the Nokia P1 will be available in three hues - white, silver and black.

Samsung Galaxy S8, launching March 29!!!!!

According to the source, they lack the traditional navigation buttons found on handsets in this line's first seven years, the new releases will display even larger than Samsung's traditionally oversized second-half flagship, the Galaxy Note. The two models, with 5.8- and 6.2-inch QHD Super AMOLED screens that cover 83 percent of their front panels.

Performance-wise, this is said to make them 11 percent faster than the Galaxy S7 overall, with 23 percent faster graphics processing, but still 20 percent more energy efficient.

The improved power consumption will be critical, despite the vastly increased display sizes, battery capacity is said to be a relatively conservative 3000mAh and 3500mAh for the 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch designs, respectively. And while internally the 4GB of RAM remains unchanged from the past few models, 64GB is the new baseline when it comes to internal storage (supplemented by a 256GB-capable microSD slot).

Charging is accomplished via a USB-C port, which is located on the bottom of the handsets next to — as Samsung will no doubt highlight in its presentation — an Apple-scorned 3.5-millimeter jack. Inclusive of additional android features and other desktop features these are unique models.. Following the painful Note7 recall and eventual cancellation, Samsung is taking extra time to test the critical models, as it hinted at in a public autopsy of the doomed phablet earlier this week. However, this year's first unpacked event, will take place nearly a month later, on March 29, and will occur in New York City.

Apple starts rolling out iOS 10.2.1 update, fixes bugs and security holes

Roughly a month after the iOS 10.2 update was released, Apple has now rolled out a follow up update, the iOS 10.2.1. Now, this isn’t a major update and you wouldn’t see any evident changes after updating you iPhone. However, despite being a minor update, it’s important and you ought to download it as soon as you reasonably can.

The update includes “bug fixes and improves security of your iPhone and iPad.” While the update description is vague, Apple details over a dozen vulnerabilities in all in the iOS 10.2.1 release, including 11 focused around WebKit, the browser engine behind Safari, the App Store, and lots of iOS apps. They also include two instances in which a malicious application could execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, which is to say, it could take complete control of your device.

In addition to that, the update fixes the bug that causes Auto Unlock to unlock when the Apple Watch is off the user’s wrist and issues with contact cards that could crash the Contacts app. There is also a fix for an issue that causes an activation-locked device to be manipulated into briefly presenting the Home screen.

While the latest update focuses on security, the upcoming iOS 10.3 is expected to be a more prominent update. The talking point of the iOS 10.3 is going to be the ‘Theatre Mode’. A leakster reported earlier this month that this feature will be recognized by a popcorn-icon on the control center. While details are scarce, it is being reported that the theatre mode is an enhanced version of Dark Mode.

Dark Mode is being teased since iOS 10 beta, which basically dims the display and replaces whites with black. This is not only easier on the eyes when staring at the phone in dark, but it is also ideal for OLED displays — widely rumored to be debuting on next year’s iPhone 8 — as they won’t consume as much power as standard displays. While there are certain tricks to enable a sort of ‘dark mode’ on current iOS versions, this rumored theatre mode could make things as easy as tapping a button.

Apple iOS 11 could finally bring group FaceTime video call feature

With the majority of video calling services now allowing group conversations, Apple seems to be walking in the same direction as well. Latest reports bring it to light that with the next iteration of the iOS, which will be the iOS 11, Apple may introduce group calls on FaceTime.

The next update, iOS 11, will include several new features, one of which is able to make a call multi-user video service FaceTime. According to information reaching the site, the next update for the iOS operating system 11, will be more Update ‘social’ that will put an emphasis primarily on chats on iMessage and FaceTime

The report also claims that the group calling feature will be initiated in iDevices by updating the iMessage on the iOS platform. The group calling feature on FaceTime will supposedly support calling up to five members.

Currently, FaceTime supports only two one on one calling between two devices, and that’s been there since its inception in 2010. Other video calling apps like Skype and Google Hangout have long integrated the group calling feature in their systems, although Google’s latest video calling app DUO supports single user-to-user calling like FaceTime.

With Apple looking to integrate group video calling with the arrival of iOS 11, iDevice owners have much to look forward to. It is being predicted that Apple will reveal its iOS 11 and all other major updates at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2017 (WWDC), which is scheduled to be held in early June.

With the current OS, which is iOS 10, among other things, a big overhaul was seen in the iMessage app. The new iMessage interface came with stickers, emoticons and third-party app integration with the launch of iMessage App Store. The iMessage App Store with the new OS, came with a wide range of apps supporting the revamped messaging app.

The iMessage App Store is very similar to Apple’s main App Store with different categories of apps. The resemblance to the main App Store isn’t really a bad thing as it brings familiarity for users, and helps get started. It is worth pointing out here that there are some apps, which are iMessage extensions of already available apps while there are others that are exclusively there for iMessage.

Best gadgets coming in 2017

Apple iPhone 8

Apple may sneak in major changes in its next flagship to mark the iPhone’s 10th anniversary in 2017. What s being speculated that the liquid-crystal LCD display may get swapped by OLED display (organic light-emitting diodes) OLED displays are known to be thinner, lighter, and more flexible than LCDs. Samsung’s Galaxy Edge phones sport a similar design and have been called gimmicky; Apple is also making the phone sensitive to touch on any of its sids instead of just one.

Samsung Galaxy S8

The upcoming Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona from February 27-March 2. The phone will feature a new virtual personal assistant based on technology from an AI and assistant system Viv, which it acquired in October. Viv was co-founded by Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer and Chris Brigham — who created Siri, which was acquired by Apple in 2010. The S8 is also expected to be powerpacked with an extremely high-resolution “4K” display, a second rear camera, and possibly an iris scanner for an added layer of security.

Microsoft Surface phone

CEO Satya Nadella's the “ultimate mobile device” could be the first of a Surface series phone, which is expected in 2017. The device is expected to offer the latest and most innovative use of the Windows 10 Mobile operating system. As per leaked pics, it has a metal body to match Microsoft’s other Surface devices and run the Windows 10 OS through an emulator, if connected to an external keyboard, monitor, and mouse.

Foldable Samsung phone

Samsung is expected to release its most awaited foldable smartphone, which it is working on for years. Dubbed the Galaxy X for now, the foldable device would let you read and view content on a tablet-sized screen that could convert to a smartphone-like size for convenient transport. Though other companies like Lenovo, Oppo have also created dual-screen and foldable smartphones, but none have released the device commercially.

LG launch G6 with Google voice assistant service next month

After launching its modular device G5 this year, South Korean electronics conglomerate LG will launch its G6 smartphone with Google voice assistant service next month

LG agreed with Google last year to feature the assistant and is in the final stage of stabilising the software before unveiling the model just ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 2 in Barcelona.
iPhone already has its voice assistant Siri and Samsung is reportedly working on its own smart assistant for Galaxy S8 called Bixby.

“Google Assistant will be very helpful for LG Electronics when all other tech firms are showcasing their voice assistant service. The difficult task for LG is whether the service will recognize the Korean language,” a source was quoted as saying.

An LG official said the company “cannot confirm the speculation at the moment” and Google also declined to comment on the matter at the moment, the report said.
LG G6 will be equipped with “heat pipes” for better cooling as part of its efforts to strengthen product safety.

This technology lowers the temperature of the processor by some 6-10 per cent by dispersing heat and helping prevent it from reaching the battery cell.

SomethingBig could be come on March 29

We’ve previously heard that the Galaxy S8 will be launched on April 15 so nothing is known for sure right now. The latest report also mentions that the Galaxy S8 will be released in the fourth week of April with prices starting from 849 euro.

As always, take this information with a grain of salt for now since Samsung is yet to confirm anything about the pricing and availability details of its next flagship smartphone. The company hasn’t even confirmed when the event will take place but at least all recent reports seem to agree that it won’t be showing off the device to the public at MWC 2017 next month.

This could be Samsung Galaxy S8 if these leaks are true

We’ve seen a couple of renders of leaked Galaxy S8 cases this week that give us a glimpse of what the next flagship might look like. They are also contradictory in their approach as one suggests there will be a 3.5mm headphone jack and the other ditches it. It can be hard to imagine what the actual device might look like just by looking at the cases so this render that we’ve received from a loyal reader gives us an idea of what the Galaxy S8 might look like if these leaked cases are true.
Based on the Galaxy S7, this render features all of the design tweaks that we’ve tried to figure out from the leaked cases, including but not limited to the repositioned heart rate sensor and the thinner chin which bears Samsung’s logo. It goes without saying that it’s far from confirmed right now whether or not this is what Samsung’s next flagship smartphone is going to look like but the leaked cases we’ve seen so far want us to believe that this is what we’ll get for our money.
